MidWest Family Broadcasting made three significant changes to its radio station lineup, effective Sept. 27.
The media group - which is owned by the radio chain Mid-West Family Broadcasting that operates in four other markets in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois - launched a new station called 105.1 BOB FM, said Mary Fleenor, MidWest operations director. The station will play a broad and more contemporary selection of country music, she said.
MidWest Family's former country station Bass Country, which was available on 92.9, was taken off the air, but BOB FM isn't necessarily a replacement, Fleenor said.
"There's an appetite in Springfield for the kind of music we're playing on BOB, which is really country variety," she said. "I wouldn't say that it replaces Bass Country, but it is our new station and we no longer have Bass Country."
Fleenor said the removal of Bass Country was due to a lack of listeners.
"The desire for the music we were playing wasn't as strong as it had once been," she said. "We needed to make a change to serve our listeners and our advertisers better."
Star 105.1 is now Star 92.9, the former frequency of Bass Country. MidWest Family ran Star simultaneously on both stations for the last two weeks to prepare listeners for the move, Fleenor said.
She said Star was moved to a different frequency to dispel the station's image as an oldies station, though its focus was moved to that of a multidecade greatest hits station in October 2007.
MidWest Family's Q-102 and 104.7 The Cave stations are still active in the Springfield market.[[In-content Ad]]
