Midwest CPI unchanged in June

Posted online
The Midwest Consumer Price Index for urban consumers remained virtually unchanged in June from the previous month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The June CPI was 207.886, compared to 207.987 in May, according to the BLS.

The CPI measures the average change in a fixed market that produces goods and services.

Increases and declines resulted in the consistency, including an energy index increase of 0.5 percent, an overall food index decline of 0.3 percent and no change in the category titled “all items less food and energy” - which includes such items as alcoholic beverages, medical care and education, according to the BLS.

During the last 12 months, the CPI for urban consumers rose 1.2 percent, according to BLS statistics.

The BLS publishes two CPI measurements, one for urban consumers and one for urban wage earners and clerical workers.

The CPI for urban wager earners and clerical workers for June was 205.524, also little changed from the previous month, the BLS said.

Included with Missouri in the Midwest category is Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The July Midwest CPI is scheduled to be released Aug. 16.
