Microsoft to exit display ad business, affecting 1,200 jobs

Microsoft Corp. is shutting down its Web display advertising business and handing operations over to AOL Inc. and AppNexus Inc., a person with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg Business.

Some 1,200 jobs at Microsoft would be impacted, with some to move over to AOL and AppNexus, said the unnamed source. Some employees would be offered other jobs at Microsoft while others would be cut.

Reuters reports Microsoft also is selling some of its map-generating technology to ride-hailing app company Uber.
