Microsoft to cut thousands of jobs

Microsoft Corp. is cutting thousands of jobs, primarily affecting its smartphone business and global sales unit.

The company plans to lay off 2,850 workers.

That's on top of the 1,850 layoffs Microsoft announced in May.

The cuts are scheduled to finish by the end of the company's fiscal 2017.
