Microsoft CEO to women: Not asking for a raise is 'good karma'

Posted online
Speaking at a conference for women in the tech industry, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella suggested to women that one of their "superpowers" is to remain demure when it comes to their pay.

Nadella told the mostly female audience that women who don't ask for a raise will be rewarded with "good karma." On average, women are paid nearly $11,000 a year less than their male counterparts, according to the U.S. Census bureau.

Nadella, whose own annual financial compensation is reported to be more than $5 million, later distanced himself from his comments. According to CNNMoney, Nadella later tweeted his comments were "inarticulate."
