Microsoft acquires school-focused MinecraftEdu

Microsoft, which already owns the building video game Minecraft, acquired MinecraftEdu, a modified version used in schools.

The program has a strong school following, being used in over 7,000 classrooms in more than 40 countries. The modifications to the game were created by startup Teacher Gaming, which Microsoft is not acquiring. The price was not disclosed.

Microsoft is said to be targeting the classroom for its services, particularly the blockbuster video game.
