Texas-based The Michaels Cos. Inc. is adding a second Springfield store.
Developer Tom Rankin said Michaels is coming to his Springfield Plaza shopping center development on the city’s west side.
Rankin said Ross Construction Group LLC is general contractor for the 15,000-square-foot store designed by Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective. He was unsure of the store's planned opening date, and officials with Michaels could not be reached for comment by deadline.
The construction site is located on the west side of Springfield Plaza, joining Ross Dress For Less, Burlington and other tenants.
An arts and crafts store chain, Michaels has more than 1,200 stores nationwide and in Canada, according to its website.
Michaels currently operates a Springfield store in the James River Towne Center, 1840 E. Independence St., and at the Shoppes at Branson Hills, 1025 Branson Hills Parkway, according to its website. It also has a store in Joplin.
