Michael Jordan in federal court over brand value

Former professional basketball star Michael Jordan was in court yesterday – not on the court. He arrived at a federal courthouse in Chicago for a civil trial that will examine the market value of his identity.

The ex-Chicago Bull brought a lawsuit against a now-defunct grocery-store chain for its unauthorized use of his name and persona in an ad. The unresolved issue in the case is damages.

The 2009 magazine ad congratulated the six-time NBA champion on his Hall of Fame induction by offering a $2-off steak coupon.
