Kenneth Meyer, founder and president of Meyer Communications, was given the honor, awarded annually to someone who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to the community.
“I’m very appreciative of it,” he said of the surprise award. “Springfield’s a great place – to be recognized that way really makes you think.”
Meyer is humble about his community involvement but notes with modesty his role in founding the CoxHealth Foundation about 10 years ago.
"We are so fortunate in this community to have an individual who cares so much about so many things," said Cox Foundation President Lisa Alexander, in a news release.
Meyer also is on the executive committee of the Cox board and has committed a number of financial gifts to the hospital and to Missouri State University, his alma mater.
Meyer started Meyer Communications in 1962. The company owns and operates radio stations KTXR FM, KWTO AM, JOCK 98.7 FM and KBFL FM.
Past recipients of the award include retired City Manager Tom Finnie, businessman Jack Stack, chamber President Jim Anderson and, in 2006, City Councilman and real estate investor Ralph Manley.
