A Springfield institution was recognized on Facebook for giving to people in need – specifically air traffic controllers at Springfield-Branson National Airport, who received a big fiesta pack from Mexican Villa.
The Oct. 24 public post by Xen Padron states, “On behalf of the SGF air traffic controllers, thank you to Garin Ferguson of Mexican Villa for the tacos today. Very nice gesture that we are very grateful for.”
The fiesta pack, a catering bundle that feeds 12-15 people with tacos, nachos, beans and rice, all for $100, is a new offering from the restaurant, and it proved to be just the right size for the airport’s control team.
Ferguson, Mexican Villa’s CEO, said he became aware of an effort to support the controllers, who are not receiving paychecks during the federal government shutdown that started Oct. 1.
Ferguson is a pilot as well, and he said he recognizes controllers as doing a vital job – and a stressful one, too.
“I wanted to support the guys and gals in the tower,” he said. “They’re what keeps a lot of people moving – a lot of goods and services, too. They’re a vital part of our economy and our way of life.”
Ferguson said Mexican Villa has been part of the Springfield community for 74 years.
“The community has supported us for 74 years,” he said. “It’s vital to our continuing mission – to our future – to give back.”
