Mercy to build $3.2M clinic in Springfield

A $3.2 million clinic development is in the works for Mercy Springfield Communities.

The health care system is scheduled to host a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m. May 24 for the clinic at 1718 W. Woodland St., according to a news release.

Jennifer Harmon, senior communications and project manager for Mercy, said the primary reason for the new build is to increase space at its South Creek family medicine clinic. The new building would be 5,100 square feet, about 1,500 square feet more than the existing clinic it will replace that's less than a half mile away along South Kansas Expressway. The South Creek clinic currently is located at 2711 S. Meadowbrook Ave.

The new South Creek clinic is being built on vacant land at Woodland Street and Kansas Expressway, south of Sunset Street. Mercy owns the 1.5-acre site after buying it in late 2019 from Big O Investments LLC, according to Greene County assessor and recorder filings. A note amount is not listed with the warranty deed on file with the recorder's office.

McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. is serving as general contractor for the new Mercy clinic project designed by HFG Architecture, said Harmon.

Among design features, the clinic will include exam rooms with exterior entrances and their own restrooms in an effort to prevent the spread of viruses, according to the release. Completion is expected in spring 2023.
