Mercy Hospital Springfield surgeon Dr. Nicholas Shoults died in a mountain bike accident in northwest Arkansas Sunday. He was 62.
Shoults hit his head severely after his bike went off the trail, according to the Springfield News-Leader.
"We are shocked and saddened by the passing of Dr. Nick Shoults. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," Mercy's website reads. "Dr. Shoults was a devoted physician who touched the lives of countless patients and their families during his more than 25 years at Mercy. We will all miss his gentle manner and healing touch."
