Despite giving the all clear, Mercy Hospital St. Louis is diverting patients to other facilities after two potentially explosive devices were identified on the hospital campus.
Both packages were away from the hospital building. One was blown up remotely by bomb squad members, and the other contained clothing.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and in order to ensure the safety of our patients and coworkers, the hospital emergency department is diverting patients to other facilities,” hospital officials said in a statement.
Mercy spokeswoman Sonya Kullmann later told Springfield Business Journal the emergency department reopened after the all-clear signal.
