Mercy Springfield Communities names new president

Posted online
Mercy Springfield Communities announced this morning it named Dr. Alan Scarrow president.

Scarrow takes over for Jon Swope, who has served as interim president since Dr. Robert Steele left his job as the first physician president of Mercy Hospital Springfield in May for the chief strategy officer role Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. Swope returns full time to his job as president of Mercy Central Communities, according to a news release.

“We’ve been working since last spring to restructure our Springfield leadership team into one group and combine their responsibilities to include both hospital and clinic operations,” Scarrow said in the release. ”We felt our integrated model had evolved to the point where we needed to functionally combine the two in order to become an even better health system.

“This leaner structure has made us more nimble and also reflects changes we’re seeing throughout our industry.”

As president of Mercy Springfield Communities, Scarrow oversees the health system’s hospital and clinic operations in Springfield and surrounding communities, including Lebanon, Rolla, Mountain View, Aurora, Cassville and Berryville, Ark.

A practicing neurosurgeon, Scarrow most recently served as president of Mercy Clinic Springfield Communities and also has worked as chairman of neurosurgery and president of Mercy Clinic Virtual Care. He completed his medical and law degrees from Case Western Reserve University and his neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He's been with Mercy since 2003.

“Alan has demonstrated professionalism, leadership and vision, as well as a great dedication to our mission,” Swope said in the release. “We know he will move Mercy forward as we work to meet the needs of the communities we serve.”[[In-content Ad]]
