Mercy Springfield Communities has named a new chief nursing officer after the previous executive in that role was promoted within the health system.
Nicki Gamet is scheduled to start as CNO on May 1, according to a news release. She succeeds Marie Moore, who in March became president of Mercy Washington and Lincoln Communities.
Gamet has been employed at Mercy for 27 years, most recently holding the vice president of regional operations role for Mercy Springfield Communities after starting as a staff nurse.
“Nicki is a phenomenal leader,” said John Myers, president of Mercy Springfield Communities, in the release. “There are plenty of examples of how her leadership and collaborative approach have achieved results."
He offered an example of Mercy Hospital Lebanon, which earned an A grade in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group under Gamet's leadership.
As CNO, Gamet will lead more than 3,400 nurses at Mercy Springfield Communities.
“I want to foster a culture of trust, empower our caregivers and support the work they do each day," she said in the release. "As the Sisters of Mercy who came before us, our nurses are the heart and hands of Jesus in the care they provide. It is a privilege to be part of that legacy and work alongside this incredible nursing team."
Gamet was chosen from a pool of four finalists who were narrowed down from applications that came in nationwide, said Ettie Berneking, Mercy media relations and communications manager.
