Mercy opens newly renovated clinic in Aurora

Mercy Springfield Communities has opened a newly renovated family medicine and obstetrics clinic in Aurora.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday at 721 E. Highland St., according to a news release.

Ettie Berneking, public relations and communications manager for Mercy, said the clinic is located on the south side of Mercy Hospital Aurora. It’s the same space that housed the former clinic, she said, noting part of the square footage previously was used to house offices. The renovation made extra room for the clinic and additional providers.

"We outgrew our old clinic space pretty quickly. Patients are coming to us from Monett, Mount Vernon, Cassville, Marionville – you name it," said Jennifer Carlson, Mercy clinic manager, in the release. "This new clinic is especially helpful for our pregnant patients. If we weren’t here, patients would have to drive 45 minutes to Springfield for their prenatal and postnatal care.”

Carlson also cited the closure of a CoxHealth obstetrics clinic in Monett for driving more patient traffic to Mercy's Aurora operation.

Berneking said the new Aurora clinic opened to patients on Aug. 21. McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. conducted the renovation work at a cost of roughly $100,000, she said.
