Mercy files suit against Aetna

Posted online
Mercy Hospitals East Communities has filed suit against Aetna Inc., alleging the health insurer owes it more than $4.1 million for claims that weren't paid or were underpaid.

The division of the Mercy health system alleges the claims have been underfunded since July 1, 2014. The suit specifically points to several newborns at Mercy Hospital St. Louis' neonatal intensive care unit.

An Aetna spokesman yesterday told the St. Louis Business Journal the company could not release a statement because it hadn't yet been served the lawsuit.
