Mercy Clinic COO promoted

Posted online
Donn Sorensen, formerly chief operating officer of Mercy Clinic with offices in Springfield and St. Louis, has been named regional president of Mercy's east Missouri region, effective March 12.

Sorensen succeeds Mike McCurry, executive vice president and COO of Mercy, who has served as interim regional president since 2010, according to a news release.

As COO of Mercy Clinic, Sorensen has led the clinic's operations for Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri.

Prior to being named to that position, Sorensen managed the physician clinic organization for Mercy's Springfield division, leading it to being recognized as a top integrated health care delivery network three times, the release said.

In his new role, Sorensen will be responsible for strategy setting, growth and operations, working with presidents of Mercy hospitals and Mercy Clinic to guide planning and decision making and to achieve goals established by the St. Louis-based health system.

Dr. Charles Rehm, chief administrative officer for Mercy Hospital St. Louis, will serve as regional chief administrative officer, working with Sorensen to provide executive leadership to Mercy hospitals in the St. Louis and Washington, Mo., regions.

“Donn and Dr. Rehm bring complementary strengths and experiences to this new leadership structure,” McCurry said in the release. “Mercy has an exciting future planned in our east Missouri region, and they are ideal partners to lead that effort.”
