Menards is planning to build a store in Kansas City, Kansas, where Schlitterbahn had expansion plans.
The home-improvement chain in summer 2018 purchased the land, located directly north of Schlitterbahn, from an LLC associated with the attraction.
“We are currently developing this 17-acre site and hope that we can start construction of the building sometime this summer 2019,” Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott said in a statement.
Schlitterbahn, which has been embroiled in controversy after a boy died on its Verruckt water slide in 2016, had planned an expanded water park and vacation village on the land now owned by Menards.
