Memphis officials: Bass Pro building glass walkway around Pyramid

Posted online
A status report on Bass Pro Shops’ conversion of the Memphis Pyramid reveals the Springfield-based retailer has added a glass walkway around the top of the 32-story structure, similar to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

According to NBC affiliate WMC Action News, the changes might have pushed back an already tight construction schedule, but those close to the project aren’t saying. The station reports Bass Pro was scheduled to open the Pyramid store, along with a full-service hotel, spa and a Ducks Unlimited heritage center, next month.

Previously, Bass Pro planned a glass elevator, dubbed the “sky ride” to the top of the stainless steel Pyramid (similar to the St. Louis arch), and glass observation decks.

According to WMC, Bass Pro has spent around $55 million on the project.
