U.S. travel surged over Memorial Day weekend.
More than 3.2 million people were screened at airport checkpoints nationwide on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, there were about 1.96 million airport travelers, the most since the beginning of the pandemic.
AAA previously predicted more than 37 million people would travel at least 50 miles from their home between May 27 and May 31. That would be a 60% increase from the same time in 2020.
