Pfizer is celebrating the vaccine work led by scientist Kathrin Jansen. She's the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer and has spearheaded the effort to get a COVID-19 vaccine market-ready.
The big news: The company announced the vaccine is 90% effective at preventing the disease inside its clinical trial.
There's more work to be done, but in Jansen's multidecade career, including time with competitor Merck, she has proven to be something of a maverick.
