The Greene County Medical Society's executive council has issued a written statement publicly supporting the doctors of the Woman's Clinic who are suing St. John's Health System Inc.
David Muegge, the society's president-elect, has signed a letter that the council agreed to after discussions during the week of July 9, according to Lois Hayes, managing director of the medical society. "They are not supporting the lawsuit per se," Hayes said. Rather, the letter talks of the issues addressed in the federal lawsuit filed May 24.
Some of those issues are that many doctors are leaving town and that it's important for doctors to have access to their patients and for the patients to have access to the doctor of their choosing, she said.
The Women's Clinic has asked the court to nullify a business covenant between the themselves and St. John's that the doctors allege won't let them compete.
