From medical students to retired physicians and from plastic surgeons to general practitioners, thousands of medical professionals have volunteered their services or taken action in the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. |ret||ret||tab|

"Our prayers and gratitude go out to the dedicated physicians, nurses, emergency personnel and all people providing care to the victims of this horrific tragedy," said American Medical Asso-ciation Chair-elect J. Edward Hill, MD, in an AMA news release. |ret||ret||tab|

Expressions of support from the medical students and physicians who re-sponded to the AMA's call for medical volunteers were many and included the following:|ret||ret||tab|

"I realize that, being a student, I could not operate alone, but allowing me to assist could free up another surgeon to better serve the public." |ret||ret||tab|

"I'm a second-year medical student and several of my classmates and I are interested in helping with the disaster relief. Of course, our clinical experience is limited, but we are more than willing to do anything that might help those in need. We had planned on taking a class trip this Saturday, so we already have a 15-passenger van rented that we could drive to New York or D.C." |ret||ret||tab|

"I am a Peruvian doctor visiting some friends in Miami. When I saw the attack in New York, it brought back memories of the terrorism in my country. Please let me know if I can help." |ret||ret||tab|

"Our department is prepared to send multidisciplinary teams into NYC if needed to assist in the critical debriefing and crisis support work that will be increasingly important over the next several days and weeks not only for the victims' families, but for the search-and -rescue workers as well." |ret||ret||tab|

"I would help in any way possible, no matter how insignificant." |ret||ret||tab|

"I hope you will call me or accept me to go on my own expenses to help my fellow citizens to overcome this tragedy." |ret||ret||tab|

"I have been trying all day to find a way to New York or Washington, D.C., to help. I am packed and can be ready on a moment's notice." |ret||ret||tab|

"I love this country of ours and would petition my group for a leave if I could be of service." |ret||ret||tab|

"I'm board-certified with 10 years' experience and ready to roll up the sleeves for hard work." |ret||ret||tab|

"I can help cover the practices of the doctors on the disaster team or would be willing to go on-site to relieve those on the front line." |ret||ret||tab|

"I have done several medical mission projects in Haiti and Central/South America. I am used to adversity. Please advise if New York could use the assistance of a pediatrician." [[In-content Ad]]
