McDonald's reported quarterly U.S. same-store sales growth of 4.5 percent, beating analysts' expectations.
During the quarter, however, McDonald's profits dropped to $698.7 million from $1.19 billion a year earlier. Officials cited charges related to the new U.S. tax law.
Revenue fell 11 percent to $5.3 billion compared with the same period a year earlier.
