The eighth annual McDonald’s Cans for Coffee food drive brought in nearly 60,000 pounds of food for Ozarks Food Harvest, short of a record set last year.
Including a 40,000-pound chicken donation delivered last month by Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN), Cans for Coffee raised nearly 60,000 pounds of food during the Oct. 5-25 fundraiser, according to a news release.
Last year, Cans for Coffee brought in over 80,000 pounds for Ozarks Food Harvest.
In October, more than 60 area McDonald’s restaurants collected some 20,000 pounds of food for the local food bank. The campaign called on customers to donate a canned food item in exchange for a small McCafe beverage, according to the release.
Delivered yesterday, the Cans for Coffee donations will be distributed through Ozarks Food Harvest’s network of over organizations in 28 area counties.
Since starting the fundraiser in 2008, area McDonald’s restaurants have donated over 200,000 pounds of food to the Springfield nonprofit, according to the release.
