McDonald’s has left the National Restaurant Association over policy differences.
The decision follows comments earlier this week by McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski that tipped wages create “an uneven playing field” in the restaurant industry. Kempczinski told CNBC that “if you are a restaurant that allows tips or has tips as part of your equation, you're essentially getting the customer to pay for your labor.”
The NRA is supportive of the tip credit, which allows companies to pay below minimum wage as long as tips bring pay up to at least the federal minimum wage.
