The leader of McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD) left a significant chunk of his take-home pay last year on the table for the Hamburgler to grab, Crain's Chicago Business reports.

CEO Don Thompson saw his total compensation, which includes stock awards, fall by nearly one-third – 31 percent – to $9.5 million due to sluggish sales. While his salary actually increased by 20 percent in 2013 to $1.2 million, he only received nearly 70 percent of his annual incentive payout because McDonald’s revenue grew by a paltry 2 percent to $28.1 billion.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, officers did not receive 2014 base salary increases in connection to the company’s performance.
