McCaskill grills Dr. Oz on Capitol Hill

TV personality Mehmet Oz, known as the host of “The Dr. Oz Show,” tangled with lawmakers including Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., on Capitol Hill on Tuesday in connection to his claims that certain products he promotes can result in “miracle” weight loss.

McCaskill was leading a Commerce subcommittee hearing on deceptive advertising for weight-loss products when the showdown took place. She said the scientific community stood firmly against Oz’ claims that products such as green coffee extract produced “miracle” effects.

Oz said he has toned down some of his rhetoric tied to products he endorses, but said he believes such remedies help lead people to make healthier choices.
