Mazda recalls cars for faulty parking brake

Posted online
Mazda is recalling around 228,000 cars in the United States because the parking brake could fail to hold or may not fully release.

The recall includes certain 2014 and 2015 Mazda 6 cars and 2014-16 Mada 3 cars.

The company says water can get into the brake caliper and cause the shaft to corrode and bind. This could cause the parking brake to get stuck or fail to fully engage, causing cars to roll unexpectedly if parked on a slope.

Dealers will look at the cars, and replace either the caliper or install a boot that keeps water out.

Owners will be notified starting Aug. 21.
