The store on Feb. 9 pulled beer – the only alcoholic beverage it sold – from its shelves and implemented a liquor-free policy, according to a company news release. The decision was made after community members, including some churchgoers, asked the store to remove the products.
Since then, Marshfield Store Director Kevin Curtis says he hears from five or six customers a day who say they’re appreciative, according to the release.
“This is definitely a win-win situation for our store and our customers,” RPCS Vice President of Store Operations Ron Calton said in the release. “We’ve made the community happy. At the same time, our sales have increased due to the shoppers who have made a commitment to shop in a store without alcohol.”
Springfield-based RPCS does not disclose revenues.
This is the first time the company has implemented the alcohol-free policy, according to the release.
