Hiring an additional police officer and the creation of the city’s first paid Fire Department position were at the top of the list of priorities Dec. 9 at the Marshfield Board of Aldermen meeting.
Dan McMillan, Marshfield’s city administrator, said that the city is in the process of interviewing for both positions. The pay rate for the police officer will be based on experience, and the maximum salary budgeted for the fire department position is $30,000.
“They typically start at around $22,000,” McMillan said of the positions.
Marshfield’s 2005 budget lists revenues at $4 million and expenditures at $3.8 million, compared to 2004 revenues of $3.4 million and expenditures of $3.1 million.
The 2005 budget anticipates spending $338,784 on general administration, $894,595 on the waste-water treatment plant, $753,551 on water, $355,057 on streets, $526,016 on Police, $22,197 on municipal courts, $53,499 for the building inspector, $122,594 for the Fire Department, $56,941 on transportation, $70,493 for cemetery needs, $197,639 on parks, $12,479 on animal control and $396,192 on capital projects.
Nixa
Nixa Board of Aldermen Dec. 13 approved the city’s 2005 budget, with revenues of $32.2 million and expenditures of $32.5 million. The city begins 2005 with a balance of $7.8 million, and officials anticipate ending the year with a balance of $7.4 million.
The city plans to spend $4.4 million on administration, $1.7 million on Police, $1.9 million on streets, $1.3 million on parks, $351,397 on building inspection, $20,000 on storm water, $2.9 million on water and $1.9 million on waste water.
Also included in Nixa’s budget is $17.9 million for the city’s electric department, which includes $9.5 million to finish upgrading Nixa’s power delivery system and construction of a new line to connect Nixa to City Utilities’ James River power plant.
