Marriott offering in-room virtual reality headsets

Posted online
Marriott is offering guests in New York and London a trip to Chile, Rwanda and Beijing – all without leaving their hotel rooms.

On Wednesday, Marriott launched VRoom Service to cater to the millennial crowd. The service allows guests to order Samsung Gear VR headsets directly to their room for 24 hours.

The devices are preloaded with three videos the company calls “VR postcards” of travel destinations. In addition to the 360-degree, 3-D videos, guests have access to the entire Samsung Milk VR platform, which Fortune describes as YouTube for virtual reality content.

The service builds on the company’s “Get Teleported” campaign from 2014, when New York guests were whisked away on a virtual trip to Hawaii via the Oculus Rift DK2 headset.
