Japanese video game company Nintendo confirmed a movie based on its "Super Mario" franchise is in the works.
The film will be co-produced with Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination Entertainment. The U.S. animation studio is known for its "Despicable Me" series.
Nintendo officials said the script is mostly finished but did not provide a release date.
