A survey from Manpower Inc. shows that Springfield area employers plan to hire workers this quarter, but not as many as in the previous quarter.
The quarterly poll said 30 percent of the surveyed businesses look to make staff additions over the summer. In addition, only 3 percent anticipate payroll reductions. The other 67 percent do not intend to make any changes.
"Companies contacted about hiring plans three months ago were more optimistic, when 43 percent expected to add personnel and 6 percent prepared for cutbacks," said Lory Hobbs, Manpower spokesperson.
Hobbs added that many employers will continue to find available labor in short supply this quarter.
The survey also shows that the best employment prospects for July, August and September are seen in transportation and public utilities, wholesale and retail trade, education, services and public administration.
