Paul Manafort's attorneys on Monday asked a federal judge to impose a prison term that's "significantly below" the statutory 10-year maximum.
Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, is scheduled to be sentenced March 13 after pleading guilty last year to conspiracy against the United States. He admitted to money laundering, unregistered lobbying for the pro-Russia Ukrainian government and conspiracy to obstruct justice by attempting to tamper with witnesses.
His attorneys cited the 69-year-old's deteriorating health, and said Manafort is remorseful for his illegal conduct.
