Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" narrowly beat "Joker" for the No. 1 spot at the box office.
Starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, "Maleficent" brought in an estimated $36 million domestically and $117 million internationally in its debut over the weekend.
In its third weekend, "Joker" added $29.2 million in North America. Its domestic box office total is now $247 million, with worldwide proceeds at $737.5 million.
