Magazine debuts at baby boomer trade show

Posted online
A Springfield-based baby boomer magazine 18 months in the making is debuting today at Boomerzest, a two-day lifestyle trade show also geared toward the generation.

The first issue of Boomer magazine hits newsstands Oct. 5. The lifestyle publication will be distributed quarterly in Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. It also will be sold at retailers, initially including select Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Price Cutter, Kum & Go and Cody’s Convenience stores, as well as other local retail and book stores.

Writers from across the country cover seven areas important to baby boomers: family, home, money, sports, health and fitness, travel and arts and entertainment.

Publisher and Editor Todd Yearack and Director of Sales Debby Gilmore, both formerly of Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, created the magazine last year with Larry D. Renken under Boomer Publishing Co., which operates from 220 E. Sunshine St., Suite 324.

The first issue is available for free at www.boomerthemagazine.com through the end of the year.

Local baby boomers will get their first taste of the magazine today and Friday at Boomerzest, at Remington’s Entertainment Complex, 1655 W. Republic Road.

The event includes seminars, live music and comedy, cooking demonstrations with Riad owner Riad Matar, roundtable discussions with local politicians, a live broadcast of local ESPN sports radio show “The Bench” and health screenings from Family Pharmacy. A complete schedule is available at www.boomerzest.com.

The event, by Wannenmacher Advertising Co., lasts until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Friday. Admission is $7.[[In-content Ad]]
