Macy's to hire 83,000 for seasonal jobs

Ahead of the busy, retail holiday season, department store Macy’s Inc. announced it is hiring 83,000 workers, according to an Associated Press story published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Last Christmas season, Macy’s hired 80,000 seasonal workers. With online sales rising, 1,200 of those employees are slated to work in online fulfillment centers. In all, Macy’s employs roughly 175,000, with 6,600 working in fulfillment centers.

Toys R Us is working to hire 45,000; Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to hire 55,000 seasonal workers; and Target Corp. will add 70,000 to its employment rolls during the shopping season, the AP reported.
