M&A activity drops in KC

Posted online
Mergers and acquisitions in the Kansas City area slowed in 2013, according to a report by Country Club Capital Advisors.

There were 128 deals completed in the past year, down 15 percent from 151 in 2012. Last year’s tally was the lowest in the area since 114 in 2009. Also of note, only one deal in the area was worth more than $1 billion – the $1.85 billion merger between Inergy LP and Crestwood Midstream Partners LP. In 2012, there were four billion-dollar deals.

Nationally, 2013 M&As started off slower than the year prior but picked up in the fourth quarter, a trend that didn’t occur in Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Business Journal report.
