Lt. Gov. Kinder: Missourians should ignore health care exchanges

Posted online
Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is telling Missourians they should avoid the health care exchanges – set to be up and running by Oct. 1 – established under the Affordable Care Act, according to KMBC-TV in Kansas City.

Kinder, Missouri’s second-ranking executive, has been a long opponent of President Barack Obama’s health care reforms and at one point filed a lawsuit challenging its implementation. Now, as Missouri is poised to have access to a federal insurance exchange under the ACA, Kinder is discouraging its use, saying he believes the law is in the process of collapsing, KMBC reports.

Last year, Show-Me State voters approved a measure that prohibits Gov. Jay Nixon and his administration from establishing a state-run exchange. According to KMBC, the Missouri Foundation for Health is encouraging the state’s 800,000 uninsured Missourians to consider utilizing the health exchange system to secure coverage against Kinder’s advice.
