L&P executive joins Jack Henry board

Posted online
The board of directors of Monett-based Jack Henry & Associates Inc. next year will include its first female member and the chief financial officer of Carthage-based Leggett & Platt Inc.

At its Nov. 29 meeting, the board appointed Marla Shepherd, 58, and Matthew Flanigan, 44, as independent board members effective Jan. 1.

The appointments followed the expansion of the board from seven to eight members and the resignation of Joseph Maliekel. The board is now composed of five independent directors and three corporate officers.

Shepherd is president and CEO of San Diego-based First Future Credit Union. Shepherd has worked at First Future for 34 years and has been CEO for 25 years.

Flanigan is senior vice president and chief financial officer at Leggett & Platt. He has worked for the diversified manufacturer for nine years and served as chief financial officer for three years. He previously worked in the banking industry as first vice president and manager of Societe Generale-Dallas and with Dallas-based Interfirst Bank. Flanigan will join the board’s audit committee and will serve as the committee’s financial expert.

“We expect that Marla’s intimate knowledge of the credit union industry and marketplace will be instrumental, considering that more than 18 percent of Jack Henry’s revenue is now generated by the products and services we provide to credit unions,” Jack Henry Chairman Michael E. Henry said in a news release. “We also expect that Matt’s board operational and financial experience, including oversight of accounting, related controls and financial reporting, will generate material benefits for us as well.”

Maliekel served as an independent director for four years and served on the compensation and governance committees and as the financial expert on the audit committee. The company said his resignation is for personal reasons and is effective Dec. 31.
