Lowe's accused of selling toxic flooring

Posted online
A critic, who in 2013 alleged Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc. sold flooring with toxic levels of formaldehyde, is now leveling the same accusation at Lowe’s Cos.

Xuhua Zhou claims a test by Benchmark International of Chinese-made laminate flooring sold at Lowe’s found similar levels of the chemical as was found by the lab in a “60 Minutes" study of Lumber Liquidators’ product.

A Lowe’s spokeswoman said the company is responding to consumer concern, adding more than 90 percent of the company’s laminate products are made domestically, and the company expects all laminate products to be of American origin by July.

Fallout from the Lumber Liquidators allegations and “60 Minutes” story included lawsuits, a drop in sales and stocks, as well as a federal probe into the company and its products by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to Bloomberg Business.
