Low-wage federal workers plan strike as Pope arrives in D.C.

Some federal contract workers plan to strike today as Pope Francis visits Washington, D.C.

Advocacy group Good Jobs Nation is calling for low-wage staff - those who cook, clean and provide other services for companies under contract with the government - at federal buildings to walk off the job to "welcome Francis and his message for the working poor."

The group claims the workers are paid so poorly they can't afford such basic needs as food, clothing and rent. Though President Barack Obama's administration upped the minimum wage this year to $10.10 per hour for companies that receive federal contracts, advocates say the law is often ignored by their employers.

Pope Francis has served as a vocal advocate for living wages.
