"Some people like to go out dancing; other people like us, we gotta work." So sang Lou Reed, in his classic “Sweet Jane,” a highly danceable paean to working folks. Reed, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in rock, died Oct. 27. He was 71.
Reed was inarguably a legend in the rock world. His lesser-known legacy as a businessman and career counselor is explored by Bloomberg’s Paul M. Barrett, a reporter with an unabashed appreciation of Reed’s work.
In a Bloomberg Businessweek article published Monday, Barrett shares some of the career advice he gleaned from Reed’s music, including being true to your own vision of what defines career success. Even if that includes walking on the wild side, now and again.
