Springfield nonprofit Lost & Found Grief Center was approved for tax credits through the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
Part of $4.6 million in tax credits delivered statewide, the grief support organization was chosen to receive $250,000 in credits, according to a news release.
The credits are awarded through the DED’s Neighborhood Assistance Program, which helps nonprofits raise private-sector funds by providing businesses partial state tax credits for contributions to approved community improvement projects. NAP tax credits are awarded to organizations with a focus on capital campaigns or providing services in the areas of crime prevention, education, job training, physical revitalizations or community services.
Under the program, businesses can provide cash, materials, supplies, equipment, technical or professional services, labor, real estate, or stocks and bonds in exchange for the tax credits. Credits can equal 50-70 percent of the total value, according to the DED.
Of the 31 nonprofits announced yesterday, Forsyth-based Gift Of Hope Inc. was the only other southwest Missouri group on the list. The nonprofit - which provides assistance to families, such as Christmas gifts, food and scholarships - received $170,625 in credits, according to the release.
