Los Angeles Times editorial chief resigns over owner's endorsement decision

Posted online

The leader of the editorial board at the Los Angeles Times has resigned.

Mariel Garza, the publication's editorials editor, cited owner Patrick Soon-Shiong's decision this month that the newspaper would not make any endorsement for president. The Los Angeles Times has made a presidential endorsement every election cycle since 2008.

The publication reportedly had been planning to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

“I want to make it clear that I am not OK with us being silent. In dangerous times, honest people need to stand up. This is how I’m standing up," said Garza in an interview with Columbia Journalism Review.
