Longtime News-Leader photographer to retire

Posted online
Dean Curtis, a 22-year veteran photographer with the Springfield News-Leader, announced he would retire from the organization effective Thursday.

He did not provide a reason for the retirement, saying it was unimportant in a column he authored about the move. The announcement comes about a month after Springfield Business Journal reported a restructuring of the News-Leader newsroom in which a source familiar with the matter said Curtis was among those reportedly not reapplying for his position.

Curtis’ announcement comes a week after Daniel Norsell, a former senior digital sales director for the Democrat & Chronicle Media Group in Rochester, N.Y., was introduced as the president and publisher of the News-Leader Media Group. The News-Leader Media Group comprises the Springfield News-Leader and The Baxter Bulletin in Mountain Home, Ark. Linda Ramey-Greiwe, former president and publisher, stepped down to serve the company as director of advertising sales in Springfield.
