Kenneth Reid, a founding member of Springfield law firm Turner, Reid, Duncan, Loomer & Patton PC, died Jan. 7. He was 92.
Reid, who retired in 2006, spent his entire career with the company. He continued to visit the firm - even in recent weeks - to discuss current events, legal issues and an e-newsletter sent to members of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association.
After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army during the last stages of World War II and graduating in 1948 from the University of Missouri School of Law, Reid moved to Springfield and in 1953 co-founded what would later become Turner, Reid, Duncan, Loomer & Patton.
The firm started out as as a partnership between the practices of Stone and Reid and Stewart and Turner. In 1953, it became Stewart, Reid and Turner. The name then changed to Turner, Reid and Duncan after Ronald Stewart exited the firm, and in 1981, changed to Turner, Reid, Duncan & Loomer. In 1983, the firm became what it’s known as today. The company specializes in products liability, insurance defense and medical malpractice, according to the company’s
website.
In 2009, the SMBA presented Reid with the Distinguished Attorney Award, the highest honor bestowed by the organization. He served as president of the SMBA in 1963.
A memorial service is scheduled 10 a.m. Jan. 15 at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole St., followed by a private burial with military honors at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, according to his obituary at
