The arts have a new advocate in the form of Kay Logsdon.|ret||ret||tab|

Logsdon, formerly of Way2 Bid Inc., is now executive director of the Springfield Regional Arts Council. |ret||ret||tab|

Most recently vice president for Way2Bid, an Internet purchasing company located in Springfield, Logsdon worked for the company from summer of 2000 until her position there concluded this February.|ret||ret||tab|

"In many ways I would have loved to stay at Way2Bid and seen it progress through," Logs-don said. Financial considerations within that company made certain choices necessary, however. |ret||ret||tab|

"In preparing the 2002 budget it was obvious staff cuts were going to have to be made and I could not, in good conscience, make those staff cuts when we were top heavy. We had too many leaders," she added.|ret||ret||tab|

Logsdon's experience at Way 2Bid will benefit her in her new role. |ret||ret||tab|

"I can read a balance sheet like never before. It's something that PR people don't often pick up," she said. |ret||ret||tab|

"You know, budgets are anathema, but you do need to know that, particularly in a director position," she added.|ret||ret||tab|

In her new capacity, Logsdon will be working with the SRAC board of directors and the community to integrate its vision of a thriving cultural arts center as part of Springfield's Jordan Val-ley Park, according to an SRAC news release. |ret||ret||tab|

Part of this vision is developing the Producer's Creamery Building in the park. |ret||ret||tab|

Logsdon said the facility will be ideal for children to do hands-on art projects and for promoting art education within the community.|ret||ret||tab|

Logsdon's previous 11-year employment with the city of Springfield as its public information officer has given her an established list of contacts to call on. She said this resource list will help her in expediting tasks in her new job.|ret||ret||tab|

The SRAC is an umbrella organization, Logsdon said. It works with all arts organizations helping them prepare their public relations stance by providing help in designing bro-chures or offering other help, she added. |ret||ret||tab|

Logsdon sees a bigger picture of what the SRAC can become. "There's a vision for it to develop into something more than it is right now," she said. "I've signed on for the long vision and not for what it is right now," she added. [[In-content Ad]]
